I've been lurking on the as a new list member for a week or so -- at last
here's a topic I can contribute to with some knowledge :)

I've had beautiful results printing cyanotype on cotton fabric. Use a fabric
with a tight weave and smooth surface. Wash the fabric before using it.

If you plan to produce work made up of pieced fabric (like a fabric collage or a
quilt) bear in mind that all the variables of photo printing come to play in a
big way in subtly varying the color from print to print: mixing up a new
chemical mixture midway through printing, age of the chemical mixture, varying
light conditions if using sun exposure (hazy day vs. bright sun, time of the
year, and so on).

Years ago I used Inkodyes on cotton (don't know whether that product is still
made) but the results of that product were too pale (pastel) for me.

Like the original sender of the question, I'd be interested in hearing the
experience of others on printing on fabric.

P.S. On the Web at <http://www.sirius.com/~bbrazy/photomethod.html> I recently
read about a phototransfer technique onto fabric: scan the photo into your
computer, print it out on an inkjet or laser printer, and using freezer paper
transfer it onto fabric. I haven't tried this myself.
