Re: a propos of a propos

Folks,
This mailing list is intended to be for friendly discourse between
people with similar interests, in this case, alternative photographic
processes.

At this point in time, there are some 502 subscribers to the list. Now
whilst there are some with many years experience (some several decades),
obviously that isn't the case with everyone (I'd be willing to bet that
probably two thirds haven't even tried alternative processes). There is
nothing wrong with that - if this list encourages someone to try
something different, then it has accomplished one of its original goals.

However, we also don't want to put people off by the level of traffic
(which is exceptionally high - higher than PhotoForum and PHOTO-L a lot
of the time). In order to help minimise fielding the same questions all
the time, a good practice is to look at the FAQ (the WWW version is
best) and probably have a quick scan of the past month's archive, just
to make sure you're not repeating questions.

Like Judy says, we don't mind "newbie" questions - they frequently
dislodge those nuggets that people have forgotten about, and everyone
then benefits.

I also realise that the archives are a bit formidible for most
(currently weighing in at just over four megabytes), and it would be
nice to distill them into something more digestible. This is one of my
"long-term" goals, but the longer I leave it, the more work there is
(and unfortunately, the people that pay my bills want me to do other
things [how inconsiderate!]). If anyone would like to volunteer, feel
free.

In the mean time, please try to keep things related to the purpose of
the list. Also please refrain from quoting entire mail messages when
replying (if you cannot edit the quoted message - then don't quote it).

cheers
-steve
