I wonder if your iron hydroxide recipe is safer with students than Dick Stevens'
one starting with ferric sulphate.

Do you think that oxalic acid would be more effective than EDTA as a clearing
agent given that the EDTA/ferric oxalate reaction is reversible.

How weak is weak ? I try to avoid unnecessary nasties in recipes. Do you think
the toxicity is going to be any greater than it is when using potassium oxalate
as the developer ?

Incidentally, another tip from the 1877 BJ is to keep a large lump of potassium
cyanide in the dark room in order to rub silver stains from the fingers. Not one
I would recommend to anyone today.
