VDB fixing, an answer.../Dmax measurement

This week I posted a problem I have : fixing a VDB printed on Arches grain
torchion, aquarelle paper "bleeds" brown in the fixer thus loosing
density. Judy and others suggested that it was probably caused by the
gelatine sizing, and testing other papers could answer that. Prelimary
tests with 2 ("undifined") other papers, non-sized, don't show this
extensive bleeding, so the sizing of the Arches most propably is the
cause of this phenomena. The same paper prints nice cyanotypes though.

.another question. I think I understand the principle of Dmax, but how
do you measure it (on a negative and on a print), with a densitometer? or
are there other ways?
