I can't tell you exactly how they fit into my world view of photography, but I
have a few Woodburytypes that I bought on Paris. They are quite inexpensive,
and I bought one of the smaller varieties, about 5 by 7 inches, for $4, not
quite as cheap as Terry found at the flea market in London. It is also an
inexpensive way to start a collection without going broke.
They have a unique quality about them that takes my breath away. Not just
sharp, but incredible depth of tone.
I guess for me they serve as a reminder of the way different photo processes
impact a view of "reality."
