There is something to be said for a moderated list. I don't know about
Photopro, but Conservation Online:

http://palimpsest.stanford.edu/byform/mailing-lists/cdl/index.html

is the model I have in mind. It comes out about once a week, which means
subscribers can actually think before they post. Another nice thing about
it is that the list can't be used as a solution to an inferiority (or
whatever) complex. The moderator will simply not let it happen. Very
civilized indeed.

I provided a plug for Alt-photo in my last book (Pt -3rd ed.), which came
out in 94. If I were wrapping up a book this week I would not mention this
list at all. This list has to clean up its act. One thing I learned about
life is that you cannot choose your relatives, but you *can* choose your
friends and your neighbors. I'm picky about mine. My skin is thick but my
patience is thin.

Let's see if I change my mind by the time my next book comes out.
