I posted some months ago about a show in San Diego which had some
wonderful platinum/palladium prints, but I couldn't remember the
photographer. I saw a review recently, and his name is Barnes.

The images were of extremely short scale subject matter - archeological
digs; ancient skeletons buried in sand. Barnes used the entire platinum
range to print these, and converted what would be mundane silver gelatin
images into something extraordinary.

I have seen many platinum prints which would have been better printed
conventionally, but these prints are something from another world.
