Good news. Everything still tentative.

Initial experiments show that good old Scotchguard make a nice sizing for
paper. It's weird stuff and maybe Sil Horwitz has an idea of what it is and
how it works. It isn't like a spray starch or a sizing, as it seems to
impart the paper with some kind of repelling action that acts like a size.
I've tried Scotchguard in the past with pt/pd and got mixed results but it
seems to be doing miraculous things with gum. They have also changed the
formula from a dry cleaning solvent base to a water base. The old solvent
base did not roughen the paper slightly like this one does. I am not sure
if the make the old formula or if it is only available to the "trade" now.

Like I say, it's all tentative and with only a couple sample prints, but it
does seem like it's working real cool.

My first prints were traditional formulas, I'm going to try the low gum :
high dichromate formula next.
