The article published on the Photo Techiques magazine about APIS 1997
contains a reference to APIS 1998 in Lisbon. It is already generating a
large request for information by non list members.
The following text is bein used as a general reply to those messages.

APIS 1998
APIS Lisbon 1998 is the second Alternative Photography International
Symposium, following the first APIS in Bath, England at the Royal
Photographic Society in June of 1997.
In 1998 Lisbon will welcome EXPO 98 ( http://www.expo98.pt ), which is to
be the last World Fair of the century. Over eight million people are
expected to visit the city between May and September, which makes the city
the ideal venue for the symposium.
Besides the usual presentations, discussion and demonstrations, various
parallel exhibitions will take place around the city, including one that
will be dedicated to the work produced at the symposium.
The program is still in preparation, but the actual site of the symposium
will be Centro Cultural de Belém ( http://www.fdescccb.pt ), a very large
cultural complex at the heart of historical Lisbon. The steering committee
is just now taking shape and its members include both local and
international talent, all of which are connected to photography in its
various forms. Most of the people involved can be found in the alt-photo
process mailing list. For more information visit
http://duke.usask.ca/~holtsg/photo/faq.html .
Sponsors are also being contacted as we hope to reduce the cost paid for by
the participants to a minimum.
If you are interested in attending, please let us know as soon as possible.
We will keep your address on file and send updates, as more information
becomes available. Remember that the maximum number of participants is 220
and that the hotels will be crowed due to EXPO 98. As of next month we can
start reserving accomodation for those interested.
