MEK, or methyl ethyl ketone is commonly sold as a contact cement
thinner. It dissolves wax very well and dries quickly.

I have never used it for photography, but dissolve some beeswax in it
and you have a marvelous waterproofing for leather. Soaks right in and
lasts forever.
