Digital negatives from Epson type inkjet printers.

Hello everybody,

Just received my copy of PDN through the mail. Inside this months copy
was a promotional package from Epson refference their six color photo
printer. After seeing first hand the *efforts* from other (very
expensive) printers the Epson printer really impressed me! For the
price I'm very tempted to pick one up.

Well I'm now starting to get beyond the initial *six color high* and
begining to wonder if this printer (Epson Photo 720dpi) will print half
as well on *clear film* and more importantly what are its monochrome
outputs going to be like. Can I get a comparable looking negative on
overhead transparency or milar film?

I realise that the full-color output of this *six color (720dpi)* format
is probably better than Epsons *four color (1440x720dpi)* output but if
we're thinking about a digital negative from such a machine is the
*720dpi Photo* the best choice?

After all's said and done the image from the Epson printer *appeared* to
exhibit fewer digital artifacts than negatives I have produced using Dan
Burkholders methods via photoshop bitmaps. If the Epson printer
produces negatives of comparable quality this could be a great way for
Alt-Photo beginners like myself to get started on the digital negative
path.

I would greatly appreciate thoughts from people with any experience of
these machines and digital negatives?

Sincerely,
Chris Gibbs
