Polaroid slide film: Fun Stuff.

I have not used it recently but have had a fair amount of experience in the
past.

Color: In order to get the color the image is broken up by the use of a
linear diffraction grating. If you look at it closely you will see a bunch
of horizontal lines of the primary colors. The color is nowhere near as
saturated nor as bright as even Kodachrome. Since the image is made up of
lines it's kind of like looking at a tv image. It looks better projected
than through a loupe. Still it has some interesting qualities and you might
find it useful. At several workshops we were able to use this film to make
an ongoing slide show.....
Because of the diffraction grating you can make neat sunglasses out of the
unexposed areas of processed films.....

Black and White. This stuff is a bit grainy but is also quite a good film
in some ways. I have seen several examples of photographers using it as an
original going directly to an enlarged negative and then printing in
platinum. I beleive that Tom Mullea has worked in this manner at some
point. Polaroid put out an issue of "Close Up" about ten years ago that
featured some reproductions of a similar type of work, all I can remember
are some rather haunting photographs of horses. Sorry I can't be more
precise about dates, artists, etc.
