I have used my Epson Stylus Photo printer to make enlarged digital
negatives that I use to print Ziatypes with moderately good results. There
are a couple of steps in creating the digital negatives that I have adopted
that seem to improve the prints:

1. Scan the original negative and perform all the PhotoShop corrections in
grayscale mode. However, when the corrections are complete switch to RGB
mode to print the negative on Epson transparency material. (If printed in
the grayscale mode the small dots are obvious in the lightest highlights;
when printed in RGB mode the highlights appear much smoother.)

2. Specify Photo Quality Glossy Film as the medium in the Page Setup
instead of Transparency medium. This allows the printer to print at 720
dpi where it would print at 360 dpi if it believed it was Transparency
medium. It seems to print OK at this resolution on the transparency medium
and the prints benefit from the improved resolution of the negatives.
