Nadia,

The mercury was either in the developer or in the paper itself. As I have
heard, the mercury is not incorporated into the prints themsleves so you
can safely eat your Strands. The function of the mercury appears to slow
down the development of the metal deposition in the paper causes a
different microscopic granular structure. The metal structure acts like a
diffraction grating and thereby give the print its color.
