I have had cracking such as you describe. It only happened to me in a few
prints and mostly those that I had a great many coats (over 14). Also it
seemed to be caused by rapid drying such as putting the print in the dry mount
press. I did notice on one print that the shadows cracked much more than the
highlights. Although I must say on one of my prints it made a nice effect.
