Charge Coupled Device - a type of semiconductor (you know, like transistor).
Photo CCDs are light-sensitive, and are used in arrays as the target for
digital (and video) cameras. (Yes, Jewelia, there is a difference: digital -
what a badly used word! - is directly compatible with computers, while normal
video is analog. There are digital video cameras out there, btw, but they need
an A-D converter to show on TV.)

A-D is a simple acronym for "analog to digital" or the reverse. They getcha,
don't they? Don't think I have to explain "TV".
