in regards to tox's question regarding natural colored cotton:

"it is truely raw cotton, not cotton linters and so this fiber is not
processed in any way, except ginning to remove the seeds...to the papermaker
an entirely new dimension is presented. There are two colors available, a
reddish brown color called "Coyote" and a "Celadon Green" One caveat -- we
recommend that a hollander beater be used to process this cotton. although
it is a very short fiber (my parenthesis--although you get all the fiber it
is a shorter fiber head of cotton to begin with) not long staple cotton, we
doubt that a hydropulper (like the whiz bang) or kitchen blender would be
suitable. however, you can always add a blenderful to already processed
pulp for decorative texture." 4.00/lb dry (<9 lbs, 2.00 more than
that--typical weird papermaking supplier pricing--if you want at least 2
pounds or so--might as well buy ten?) $45 for 2 lbs dry beaten in the 5
gallon pail plus shipping you can buy custom made papers from them and they
might make you some as close to what you'd like as possible--interestingly
for you fisheyes and other non square types--jewelia could fit into this
category as close as any other one which is not much of a qualification i
know but...--they will make paper with circle molds so you could use a round
hand-made wove paper: 7", 8.5", 9.5", or 12" 1.50-2.50 /sheet for cotton and
a few otehrs--probably would have to pay more and custom order if you wanted
the special cotton. an 11x14 laid paper rectangle would be $2.00 --- this
is from the Carriage House Catalogue (brooklyn new york) 800-669-8781

and my other favorite supplier for papermaking is lee scott Mcdonald 888 627
2737

neither has web sites. its a small world in papermaking and they are
extremely unfortunate not to even have anyone to be alt to.

i just confirmed the lack of web presence with both last week (as well as
that they were both still in business) and ordered new catalogs. the above
is a quote from the new carriage house catalog. i am still waiting on lee
mcdonald's. both these firms are more than a presence--they both have been
here since the beginning of the return of papermaking and made many
contributions. carriage house offers workshops and studio rentals

more on both and others later

2:21 am and i'm finally wearing down
