Kodak had at one time made arrangements with SAFETY CLEAN to pick up and
dispose of photographic effluents for small to medium size labs. Kodak's
environmental office should be able to provide some info. Also, I
believe small amounts of developer are OK, stop and fix are the
problems. Your wash water consumption will also need to be kept to a
minimum. The chemicals in the wash water are not the problem, the extra
volume may over tax the septic system. Regardless of how you handle the
fluid effluent from a darkroom, remember to add an enzyme enhancer to
the septic system. This will keep the system running even if some
chemicals do get into the system.
