A really useful post.. Thanks for the info Katharine...

As for viruses being off-topic... Many out there are using their Macs and PCs to
do work on scans of their imagery, if not to make digital negatives, etc.

The list had virii posted to it...

Many of the users of the list use the same computer to read their e-mail, as they
do for their imagery work...

A threat to their hardware by a virus is in some sense no different than the
dangers of fungus to papers and gums...

As such, it is indisputably on-topic...
