The photo was called "Black Sun"

Adams states "With the shadow values placed in Zone V
the sun was so bright as to pass beyond the shoulder of
the film curve to the area of reversal, where an
exposure increase produces a reduction in density"
"This negative was developed in the highly compensating
pyrocatechin formula" from The Negative

He also says that the developer accentuated the effect,
basically you need to try for gross overexposure. A
modern emulsion should solarise under similar
conditions (anybody correct me im not speaking from
experience) the same principle is used to make
positives by secondary exposure I think.
