Yes, I understand your question. :-)

I don't know if the characteristic curve of film will repeat infinitely with decreasing amplitude, but it will repeat at least once, that is, we have the normal characteristic, then the curve goes down, then the curve will go up *again.*

You can check out this kind of curve in books that deal with the science of photography. The one by Strobe has the curve if you are interested.
