I would also recommend the London and Upton book and did use it till the
price skyrocketed. I switched to a very thorough and well written book,
Photography in Focus by Jerry Burchfield, Mark Jacobs and Ken Kokrda, 5th
Edition, NTC Publishing Group, ISBN 0-8442-5782-6. It's very well
illustrated but not as slick as the London and Upton book.
