How about targeted handouts and put 5-6 copies of Upton, Horenstein, etc. on
reserve in the school library. We don't really need a text; much better to
have the students spend a few bucks on books like Mirrors & Windows, or a
splendid book like Photography: A Facet of Modernism. Not to mention the
wealth of superb information available on the web from loading a reel of film
for developing to doing wet collodion if you want.

Let each student purchase a Yashicamat 124, Ricoh or whatever and do splendid
work that shows the potential of photography right from the start, instead of
mucking around with 35mm-one of the most demanding disciplines of all
photography.
