Greetings Marc and Co.,
I am nothing like an expert but may have a thought or two which could be
of some help:
Problems are coming up after the first try-outs :
- DRYING OF THE PLATES AT THE END ...
Just stand them up on end and let the water drain off. It will take no
time at all....
- THE CONTRAST OF MY IMAGES IS RATHER LOW.
My notes for increasing the contrast of a plate indicates the following
fuming procedure:
First fuming in iodine - to a light-yellow to yellow color, not more (i.e.
avoid the deep yellow to rose color in this first fuming).
The fuming in Bromine brings the color on the plate just into the light
rose color.
The second fuming in Iodine should only be 1/2 - 3/4 the length of the
first fuming....
- HOW CAN YOU MAKE A CONTROL TO BE SURE THAT AFTER POLISHING THE
SILVERPLATE ... there is no polish or fat on the plate anymore ?
I assume you are using something like a folded tape on stuck to the back
of the plate during handling. That being said, if you have jewelers rouge or
finger oil (the "fat" you mention??) on the plate, it can be removed with
alcohol and a cloth - but you will need to hand buff the plate once again to
remove the alcohol residue.
Hope this helps - good luck!
