Nick,

Shortly you should be able to get Cranes 90# cover directly from the
company through the e-commerce site they are setting up, though I don't
think it's quite up and running yet. From your description of troubles
and continuing 20% reject rate it really does seem as though you've got
an off batch, or one that has been stored badly or somehow made
substandard. I don't have defect-free results with any paper but I don't
have that much trouble with any batch of Cranes I've worked from.

"Old" ferric oxalate should print faster and more contrasty than good,
fresh, stuff. That could account for it working well on some pictures
and not on others.

In my experience 65%-72% humidity is indeed ideal: I have to struggle to
get the humidity to that level in winter, and to lower it to that point
in summer.

For ziatype POP prints I coat and print immediately after 'just enough'
drying. Storing the prints for any time at all causes trouble. I just
coat one print while the previous one is exposing. For develop-out, I
like to coat half a dozen or so sheets and leave them drying on a line
in the dark for an hour or so, then print them. I see no difference
between the first and last prints from the extended storage time of the
ones printed last. I've never even tried keeping a sheet overnight but
suspect such a long shelf-time isn't a good idea.

[please note new email address]
