Re: Introductory teaching materials

I have been teaching photography for a number of years now, with groups aged
from 6 yrs to 60+. During the first or second week (depending on age) I have
then making Photograms, the process you go through is fundamental to
photography, the action of light on photosensitive materials via the
enlarger is the same as that via the camera, except you can see more of what
goes on.
What is more important is that straight away you have them making images,
something they can take home after the first session, giving them a sense of
achievement and helps to demystify the process as a whole.
If you want more info email me, there's a photogram here on my community
arts page.
A photograph is not only an image (as a painting is an image), an
interpretation of the real; it is also a trace, something directly
stencilled off the real, like a footprint or a death mask.
