Dan, you took the words right out of my mouth (or my fingers). I too have
a bottle of retouching fluid and a bunch of articles from old magazines
about "working up" and "rubbing down" negatives. But in the time it took
to do one negative that way (and don't forget odds are you're working on a
4x5 !!!), you could learn how to scan and fix EVERY negative -- also,
possibly do a double scan (as per that nifty polaroid) and get hold of
EVERYTHING in the density...
