"Cyanotype: The History, Science and Art of Photographic Printing in
Prussian Blue" by Mike Ware, is reviewed by Sarah Van Keuren in
Post-Factory Photography #4. She gives the history and "color" on
scientific (also cyantific, I guess we could add) invention a rave, but
has reservations about the "New Cyanotype" for various practical reasons
(and this writer agrees on both counts).
There have been a number of articles on the New cyanotype -- in View
Camera Magazine and Photo Techniques that I know of... many who do it
swear by it, usually for the INTENSE blue. My personal hunch or anyway
*question* however is that same intensity is possible with the "old" if
optimized & final acid-bathed. But I have not tested so that is unearned
commentary. I will say however, that I never found the problems with the
"old" that led Ware to invent the replacement.... as others claim to have
not, either. But, it's early yet...
Oh, and not to forget, Issue #5 of P-F will also be on cyanotype --
formulas, etc. but also some outstanding photo artists.
