Mark,

As a fellow Canadian, I may have an insight for you. The answer just might
lie in your line "Regards from the frozen north" the word "frozen" being the
key. I had terrible grain problems with Platine until I heated the coating
solutions and rod to just a wee bit above room temperature. The paper now
coats as smooth as a baby's bottom. I found that at small coffee cup warmer
works very well to keep the shot glass I mix my chemicals in at just the
right temperature.
