The animation, in this case, is created from within Adobe Live Motion which
is able to create images usable by the Flash program - Flash is on all new
computer and on alot of the older machines as well.  The number of images
(aside from the text) is two - the disolving is taken care of by Flash and
the parameters for fading speed, duration and overlap are set by Live Motion
(among other programs).

As far as the frames go, you are correct, they take up some room on the
screen, especially if you are using a 640X480 14" monitor.  That combination
is getting to be the exception - especially since the 17" monitors are now
in the range of $180.
