Am I being naive here, but what is a Ziatype? Have I missed something? I
looked in my Chambers English dictionary but it is not shown. Nor could I
find Zia. The nearest I could find was a word for Tibetan yak. Not very
helpful. Fox Talbot makes no reference to it. I can only assume it is one of
those new historic processes invented by modern day chemists to confuse
humble printmakers like me. Having invented it they then dredge through dead
languages to find a "sexy" word. Mind you, Fox Talbot called his process
after himself. He did redeem himself later by calling his book " the Pencil
of Nature". Very poetic and very Anglo Saxon.

On the subject of PC I didn't know we could have political discussions on
the alt/photo list. What jolly FUN! Can I join in?
I agree wholeheartedly that the craze for PC has seriously eroded our basic
freedoms. In Britain we guard our freedoms jealously. Freedoms that we held
dear for three hundred years like raping, looting and slaughtering huge
chunks of what we now call the third world. Freedoms like cutting down all
our forests to make warships to zap the natives. Freedom to abbreviate the
term " westernised oriental gentleman" to read "wog". Freedoms to make 8
year old girls work for 14 hours a day in a dark, wet coalmine.Freedom to
hang a hungry man for stealing a sheep. and to make it worse we can no
longer criminalise the act of being gay. Where are the good old times? And
didn't we bring Christian enlightenment and railways and roads to all those
heathens in our great Empire? Long live the Queen.
Its not all bad news though. Even today we have the freedom to to deny jobs
and good housing in N.Ireland to those who have the temerity to call
themselves catholics. And there are a few areas where PC has not totally
ruined our lives. In the UK there are still organisations where women are
not allowed. And there are still one or two golf clubs where membership is
"discouraged" for "members of the Jewish faith"!!
Neverthgeless we have to accept the fact that PC is here to stayand that the
world is going crazy. Even the churches in South Africa are no longer
allowed to put a notice up outside saying "Whites only".
