Re: alternative processes.

Kodak's position on digital vs conventional photography is that film has
an extremely bright future. Film will be with us for decades to come.
There is NO WAY digital will ever totally replace conventional
techniques. It is gaining ground, and it is getting better, but it is not
close yet in terms of quality. It is used for speed and cost savings
only. It is also prevalent because of its ability to be manipulated with
less skill than is required for doing it in a darkroom.

I can use my 2-1/4 x 3-1/4 Folder, made before most on this list were
born and easily surpass sharpness. If I go up to my 5 x 7, 8 x 10 or
larger View Cameras - it is simply no contest.

It is interesting for technical reasons. I recently started gathering
materials to make some Autochromes, and processes like Dye Transfer and
the Technicolor IB processes are of great interest to me. Incidentally,
Technicolor might be considered an alternative process as well. Clearly,
time has not given us a substitute that can hope to approach an IB Print.
