.05 for zone III isn't overexposed. That's actually on the thin side for
*fully detailed* shadows which is what goes in zone III. If detailed
highlights (zone VII) are at 1.8 then you may have long scale negatives that
sound quite suitable for Pt/Pd, but the only way to find out for sure is to
print some of them.

btw, contrary to another post, _sheet_ Tri-X has very little shoulder (it's
a completely different emulsion from the 35mm film of the same name) and can
be overexposed with relative impunity, still retaining long scale with
proper development because the high values just keep on climbing. A film
with heavy shouldering like HP5+ or Bergger BPF200 must be exposed on the
thin side to get a long scale before encountering the shoulder.
