Epson banding can be caused by many things including the phase of the moon,
etc.
Kidding. Most causes can be explained.

Some points from my experience:

-ALWAYS, ALWAYS run an alignment and a nozzle check at the start of a print
run especially after changing print media.
-Some papers will band, some won't. (feed problems, slippage, etc.)
-Some images band, some don't. (scanning artifacts, editing artifacts, too
much sharpening, etc)
-Don't use hi speed mode. (head reversal errors/backlash).
