Tom and the list,
I was a participant in one of Dan's workshops. In the workshop we used
Pictorico transparency (yes it's cheap at Amazon),
a 1270 printer (which we did encounter some banding problems and needed a
new printer) with Epson inks. I don't think that
we had any kind of special inks. The Pictorico took a few minutes to dry.
However, it did not dry well if you used the 'wrong' side or if you had
your printer settings on high speed (which I learned by
doing a couple of times and the ink would slip off the page). I think that
the printer driver will default to high speed unless
you change it or make a custom setting.
I have just purchased my own 1270 and the Pictorico is on the way. I was
satisfied with the pt/pd prints made at the workshop,
but then again I'm a 'newbie' to the process, so do what you will with it.
In the next week or so, I'll be making my own digital negs
both from the inkjet and a service bureau (a bit later), so I'll know more
by then.
The workshop was two weeks long (2 weeks of doing nothing but sit in front
of a computer with the chosen image and Dan
right next to you to help with any issues). I don't think that it's an
easy process to start out with, especially learning from the
book along with all of life's other distactions!

Subject: re: desktop negatives
I've followed the 'desktop negatives' thread with interest.
Could someone please clarify: is anyone producing desktop digital negatives
for pt/pd printing that rival or exceed imagesetter quality? If so, what
system are you using?
>From the posts, I believe the answer would be' not quite yet'.
It sounds as though Dan Burkholder 's system is not completely resolved for
desktop use, or I have I misread the posts?
Thanks,
Tom
