Could this be happening with a glass rod too? I do push down a bit hard
because the paper I'm using now (Whatman's fine print) sometimes seems to
resist the emulsion a bit. Tonight I'll try a lighter touch and just go
over it more times maybe.

I also strained the solution that tends to grow mold, as per Judy's
suggestion. I will report later on whether this solved the problem or not.
