I myself have never tried it, but I read quite a few negative reports
on rec.photo.darkroom. The problems were: uneven development, filling
and draining times too long, agitation method very important.

For me the biggest drawback seemed the volume developer nedded to fill
the tank (I believe 1200 ml), and I am such a low volume shooter, that I
rarely have 6 sheets of the same film for the same developer and time. I
find my Jobo very convenient.

That beeing said, I did read favourable reports about using the
Combiplan tank.
