If you silver is higher than 12% add distilled water, if lower add silver
nitrate. Perhaps you do not have silver nitrate to add and just want to
reduce the water content? Depending on the container it is in, put it (in
its container) in water in a pan on the stove and then turn the flame on low
at let the water boil around the container which will also boil off water in
your silver nitrate solution. ( long run on sentence) I assume you have some
way of measuring the percentage of silver nitrate in your solution?
If not go to a home brewing store and but a hydrometer. A reading of 60 to
70 is about what you are looking for.
What are you using the solution for? GENERALLY the only real danger is
getting the stuff in your eyes. I turns them black and you loose your sight.
I will turn your skin black as well but it comes off. There are no
dangerous chemicals in the solution unless they were added as silver nitrate
only needs water to dissolve.
then .
..I have two questions. First, I am wondering if anyone
..has any suggestions in getting my 12% silver nitrate
..solution back to 12%! I read one description which
..uses nitric acid, it wasn't a full description,
..though. If there is a place or person that I could
..take the solution to (in NY), I would be happy to
..avoid a process which I am most likely not equipped to
..do safely. Any feedback would be great!
