If I understand the directions for albumen printing....IF you use vinegar
you may also be introducing to much water. You can make you own glacial from
vinegar in the fridge.

"I have not done this but "I read that this is how they made it pre 1900. IF
this does work, let us know. Be sure to read the MDS sheet on acetic acid.
Once concentrated you will need to handle with care

To do this you need to be able to slowly drip vinegar onto a large cold
object while inside the fridge. If not done to fast the acetic acid will
solidify on contact with the object and water will run off. So you end up
with solid Acetic acid and a tray of water. If you go to fast you end up
with a tray of cold vinegar. The object should have high thermal
conductivity and large mass....to retain the cold temp. Cone shaped would
work best, like a inverted funnel.
I think I would cool down the vinegar for a while before starting.

Acetic acid turns to a solid at 60 degrees "F "I believe so if this does
work, later you can melt it into a glass container that I would keep covered
with a plastic wrap.

I bought some Acetic acid from a....PHOTOGRAPHIC STORE!!! About the only
chemistry they carry that is useful to me.

If all this seems to much go Ahead and try it with vinegar. Maybe they were
wrong back then or maybe THEY could not get pure acetic acid to make albumen
either.

..Hello!
..
..I'm attempting Albumen. I was told I can use regular white
..vinegar instead of Glacial Acetic Acid. My recipe calls for2ml
..(GAA) in 30ml water. Vinegar must not be as strong, so what would
..be a reasonable substitution amount?
..
..Thanks
