Re the 'sticky' dark slides:

1. Clean the slide using a clean rag such as a baby diaper, in warm water
a good household cleaner such as 409 or even ammonia.
2. Dry with a hair drier and do not get the slide too hot.
3. Inspect the film holder itself to see if there is excess dust or dirt
caught in the sliding area. Sometimes, using a large paper clip, opened
up w/a little bit of cotton wrapped around it and 'spun' on to the clip
far enough up the clip so you can hold on to it w/your fingers, then
dipped in alcohol and lightly scraped inside the slot can do wonders.

My advice is to NOT use was on the slide because wax will wear off and
collect either on the slide or on the hairs lining the slot.
I also would not use WD40.
Maybe something like a liquid silicon used to seal grout on tiles and then
wiped off might aid. Too, a silicon lubricant ought to be checked on
something like glass and wiped off to see if a residue is unduly left.
