To Nick Makris
We have the Piezography and inks at the Art Institute.
The cost was about $500 for software and inks.
One of our teachers is employing it and I have used it sparingly this past
semester.
We use an Epson 3000 and connect it with an older Macintosh clone because
the software just could not work (we couldn't make it work I should say)
with a G3 going from a USB to serial printer port. We use the simple old Mac
7-pin printer cable running from the clone.

The paper is Xtreme Gamut Satine which will soon be out of production.

With not much tuning the prints coming out are extremely good. Standing far
enough away, maybe five feet, so you do not observe the paper surface that
closely, one cannot tell the difference between a silver gelatin and the
Piezo. In fact, w/all the Photoshop tools available, one can print better to
the Piezo.

If anyone feels a hesitancy of jumping in, it certainly will live up to your
expectations.

We are also experimenting with film and obtaining pretty good results. This
film is purchasable from
<www.uncletim.com>
This site may fool you as it is there primarily for guitar books. Tim
Gillespie, who operates the guitar part, is one heck of nice guy. He has a
partner who is selling this DuPont (as I remember) product.
The film is a double coated and made uniquely for this process and only
available through uncletim (oh, maybe some other spot also).

You can phone Tim and he'll send you about a dozen sheets of 8x10 for about
$17 to your door.

It is all very much worth the investment.
