I am fiddling around seeing if I can do photo etching of litho blocks.
I'm using a technique suggested in spirit of salts - using a
gum-bichromate coating on a lino block to make a photo resist.
I'm thinking I should try a less vigorous etching agent. Oven cleaner was
suggested in spirit of salts - but mine did no etching
Also tried dichromated gelatin and white glue as resists. No success
either - though the glue seemed to resist the caustic soda the caustic
soda seemed to etch under the glue.
1. Are you trying to etch Linoleum Blocks or Litho "Stones" ?
2. If it is Linoleum Blocks you are trying to etch. Try straight Gum Arabic.
Let it dry completely, then try to etch with oven cleaner. It needs to be
the spray on kind. I don't know if there is any other..I have never cleaned
an oven. Anyway, leave it on for about 2 hours. It should etch if the oven
cleaner is "fresh" - "new".
3. I have even heard of using shelac as a resist. Only if you don't want any
etching to occur in certain areas. Just apply a think coating and allow to
dry completely.
I hope I have helped.
If you want to do a photo etch on Litho stones, that is a completely
different process.
Rosae.
