I saw Gene Laughter's bromoils at Soho Photo yesterday (Tuesday) -- their
guest show -- and very beautiful they were. I'd seen few if any bromoils
previously, so these were particularly revelatory. Just two complaints: I
was sorry not to meet Gene, who wasn't there. Also, it would have been
interesting to see dates of the prints with the titles... Oh, and #3: His
prices are ridiculously low. They should be at least twice as much.
Whoever is brave enough to come to New York can pick up a bargain
(actually many bargains -- Tribeca restaurants, for instance, including
several of best in the city, are having distress sales).
Soho Photo is at 15 White Street, between West Broadway and 6th Avenue...
middle of Tribeca. Look downtown for a nice view of.... the Woolworth
building. That, by the way, is a very beautiful turn-of-the-century (19th
century), structure, at one time the tallest in NYC, if not the world.
