Hi Wendy, I do this often, and there are at least two different ways of
getting nice images. I like to simply process the E-6 in C-41 chemistry
as standard color negative film. The results are delightfully grainy with
very strong surreal colors and high contrast when printed on Fuji Crystal
RA-4 paper, I'm sure the paper helps the color and contrast.

The second way is to process the E-6 in B&W film developer, (your choice)
for about 11 minutes, then after a good wash, develop C-41. Slightly less
grain and contrast but otherwise not too much difference, just the time
involved.

You will get better results from low contrast subjects and lighting.
