It's customary to preshrink the paper, maybe twice before the sizing &
hardening operation, which will shrink it further.... have you done that?
Fastening to a board has its own hazards, not a matter of "hurting the
paper" but of having it stay flat on that board through alternating flood
and dry. Some papers are also steadier than others... thicker for instance
is generally stabler, or at least less likely to dry twisty.
