But the essential question is, what is the "doing this" that Dick
talks about. I have visited and participated in Dick's webboard
many times but for most of the things that I am interested in "doing"
listserves do it more efficiently when measured in time. If you want
to exchange images, engage in live time chat, or do any of the other
things that webboards allow, then fine. However, the cost of that is
one-line time and I think that the great majority of people still
connect to the internet with telephone line modem connections. From
past experience I can tell you that visiting and working on a
webboard like the one at B%S takes a lot of time. On the other hand
participating in a listserve takes virtually no time, and if your
major interest is in an uncomplicated exchange of ideas and
information I find the elegance in simplicity and efficiency.
Some folks like trucks, others buy cars and some like motorcycles,
and the world keeps turning.
