There's an article in the current issue of The New Republic about a show at
the Getty Museum of Gustave Le Gray's work. It's called "LYricists and
Empiricists." Also it discusses a Weston show and the show of New York
photography at the Jewish museum. By way of discussing these shows, the
critic muses about 19th century photography and how its issues are still
with us, in an interesting way. It's by Jed Perl, but never fear, he
doesn't use the term "bullshit artist" a single time in this article.
Unfortunately it doesn't seem to be online. The issue is the August 19 and
26 issue.
