Nice to read such a concise description of plate whirlers. I'd only
add

that in copper intaglio printmaking, I learned to wipe down the plate
with water and chalk (aka whiting), then clean with ammonia in water,
and to repeat those two until water flows smoothly over the surface and
doesn't bead.
