Gordon,

In theory the VHO output 48" tubes, at 115 watts, should print much
faster than regular 48" tubes at 40 watts. However, what I found in
practical tests with 24" Super Actinic tubes, using the same ballast
unit, an Icecap 430 rated for VHO tubes, was that there was very
little if any difference in actual printing speed between VHO tubes
(75 watts at 24") and regular output tubes (20 watts at 24"). I can
not explain why this was the case but I tested several times to
verify the result.

From my experience in testing various UV lights I have concluded that
the ballast is at least as important as the wattage of the tubes so
if you decide to invest in the VHO tubes makes sure that the ballast
units are 1) electronic, and 2) rated for at least 25% more wattage
than the tubes.
