I largely agree with what you said in relation to silver gelatin
emulsion products. I said above in a broad context including cameras
and optics.

I don't know about others "outdid" Konica. In terms of money,
definitely yes. A lot of things just copied Konica design years later
and made more money. Look at copies of Pentax K1000-like or Ricoh
KR-5-like SLR's. For that matter, look at numerous 35mm compact
cameras... many mechanisms, circuits, shutter construction, etc are
after Konica design.
I'm a current user of Konica Autoreflex T series and Hexanon lenses
(when I shoot 35mm, which is rare)
